CV Style

Is a hand written CV acceptable?

• use either a computer or a typewriter to generate your CV. It's very unusual to receive a hand-written CV.
• send your CV off by email or by post
• have in consideration the type of job that you're going for:
* If it's a technology-based company that you're going to be working for in a technological role, show your proficiency with a computer. You are opening yourself up to the opportunity of having your CV rejected in that type of industry if it's hand-written.

Should I add color graphics and patterns to my CV?

• are you applying for a job as a graphics designer, or a similar creative job? Then use color, graphics and lots of use of visuals.
• the general rule with CVs is to keep it as simple and neat as possible. My recommendation: No pink, blue or other colors ... just stick to black and white!

How important is attractive design?

• in terms of how it's presented your CV, I usually recommend to keep it as simple as possible.
• Keep also the font standard. A few lines here and there is absolutely fine, maybe bold or italicized. Looks your CV straightforward? Than is good! In the main, keep your CV neat.

How do I make my CV look good?

• by making it eye-catching and easy to read.
• remember: simplicity is the key with a CV!!!

Should I add my photo to my CV?

• think about whether it's actually necessary before putting your photograph on your CV.
• are you going to become a model? Then probably your future employer needs to know what you're going to look like.
• the one thing you should do is to make sure that you look at the abilities that you have on the CV, and not necessarily what you look like.
• a photograph can influence the judgment of your future employer.
• think! Is it relevant? If yes, than have a professional photo inside your CV. If not, than none.

Should I tailor my CV to a particular job?

• it's very important that you tailor your CV to the needs of the particular job or role because you could be up against really stiff competition.
• your employer, or future employer, needs to be able to look at that CV have it say something that he is interested in.

How do I tailor my CV to a particular job?

• look at the mission statements and the core values of that particular company, and what the industry's all about.
• are you a competitive individual, working in a competitive environment? Than put it down in your selling statement or your values statement that you have on your CV. The main part that you tailor is your selling statement; your ability to get the interest of your future employer.
• Remember: that is the only part of your CV you should change. Never change your employment history or indeed your education qualifications.
